PEEL RIVER UNDERBRIDGE REHABILITATION
Peel River Underbridge at Tamworth, NSW was opened in 1882 and is one of the 10 surviving wrought iron lattice girder railway bridges in NSW. The bridge is situated at 454km on the main northern railway line between Werris Creek and Armidale. The bridge forms Span 70 of the Tamworth Rail Viaduct, a 98-span metal underbridge that crosses the Peel River and adjacent floodplain.
Peel River Underbridge is a single span wrought iron riveted structure formed of two lattice girders, 54 wrought iron cross girders, 3 wrought iron top arches, timber stringers, timber transoms, rails and guiderails. Other elements include horizontal wind braces and an inspection gantry.
