WARROO BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

The old Warroo Bridge over Lachlan River was on the list of NSW timber truss bridges to be preserved. However, when the conservation strategy was reviewed in 2019 the bridge was identified for removal as it could not be effectively upgraded to meet future road network requirements. This Dare timber truss bridge was built in 1909, and is in poor condition due to its age. It is narrow and is not suitable for use by modern agricultural equipment or heavy vehicles.
The old bridge will remain in service throughout construction and until the new bridge is opened to traffic. The new 57m long bridge structure comprises 3x 19m spans, super-T girders, and designed to last over 100 years.
This project is part of the Bridges for the Bush Tranche 1 program, and its objectives include load capacity, improving vehicle access, increasing safety, reducing environmental impact and respecting the bridge's heritage significance.
